Love This Book!

I love this book! I just picked it up the other day while at Barnes and Noble. This is Carolyn Westbrook's book on her own home. In the introduction she says, "This is not another "Hollywood" decorating book, where everything is staged with pictures of other people's homes and borrowed children. This is my family, my home, and my way of life that I am sharing with you. It is here that two generations live together under the same roof, just as families did years ago." Carolyn has a a line of slipcovers and accessories. Click here for her website, http://www.carolynwestbrookhome.com/index.php . EDIT: Deborah left a comment on the cost of the book at Amazon.. There must have been an error. I just checked and at Amazon it is currently on sale for $10.17, plus shipping :-)

What I love about this book is....everything! I love that she has a room, like the one of the cover that is all white and shabby, but she also has rooms that are red! She has painted furniture and beautiful non painted furniture. It is how I am trying to decorate my home...

Here is the cover (click on any picture to enlarge)

The Red Room.....

Blue and red transferware mixed and used together....I love this idea so much, I borrowed it!

These last two pictures are MY red and blue transferware in my kitchen hutch.

Do you have a favorite decorating book? I would love to hear about it :-)

Thats so funny because just last week I put 20 of my pink and blue tea cups all on one tea cup shelf and today I removed all of my blue and white plates from the corner cabinet in the large dining room and replaced it with the pink and white dishes---so funny to read and see these pictures of yours!! Maybe there is something in the air, hmmm?

Beautiful book! I must go have a little looky at the bookstore next time I trot by it! I don't have any particular books that I love for decorating, but I do have enough magazines to bury myself alive under! lol I love your transferware Penny, classically beautiful.

Hi Penny,
I love your transferware too! I just brought up 6 plates of the red and white from storage in Tennessee. I could hardly wait to put it up on the wall. I put 3 in a hallway and 3 above a door in a bedroom I call my Mary Englebreit room.

I hadn't tought of mixing my blue and white ones with the red ones. But it looks nice together!!

Thanks for your comment of my returning home... I missed you..and your blog during our trip.. So much happening and no time for the computer while away. Daughters computer is in their bedroom and I hated to just go in to use it for long periods of time.

Love the book you shared with us. It looks yummy!

Hugs,
Jan

Hi Penny,

Thanks for visiting Gracious Hospitality. I came to visit you at your blog --- and realize I've been here before. You do lovely work! I was first drawn to your blog because of the title --- LAVENDER! I am addicted to lavender and have to contain myself from posting pictures of it and talking about it every day! LOL! Please come back again!

I really loved seeing your hutch Penny! How pretty the red and blue transferware looks together. I had blue which I took up to my cottage. It was the only way to get us using our Wedgwood dishes which sat still fairly new in our hutch. Do you use your transferware for everyday?

Penny I'll be looking out for this one! I love decorating and love to get ideas and ispiration, what I don't like for me is to have to follow one particular theme, I like to try and achieve several different themes, mainly cause I change my mind along the way, and have them flowing together if that makes sense.

Oh, that book seems very intriguing. I hope to get a copy soon. One of my decorating books which I feel many might appreciate is Barbara Milo Ohrbach's Antiques at Home. So many of us are into vintage and antique objects, and this book shows how they add warmth to our homes.

Hi Penny, this is a seriously gorgeous book, we have been after it for ages, and just found one on ebay last week, it's coming soon :) Have admired it at a friends house for a long time! We also love all of Rachel Ashwell's books! Have a wonderful week Penny and thanks for joining in on the fun in our Cup Sweep this week! We hope you had fun too! Jenn and Jacqui :)

Penny what a beautiful blog you have!

The book perked my interest as soon as I saw the RED page and a Scottie sitting on the couch ;-) I think a copy of this is going on my Christmas wish list......if I can wait that long. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Oh I just love a good book. You never know sometimes if the book is any good or not until you hear from a friend that they've read it and loved it, so thank you for sharing this one with us. Wow, only $10.17???

Sandi McBride said...

Now WOW...I like that it's her home, too and got my copy at the flea market about a year ago...paid the princely sum of 75 cents then worried if it was 'hot' since what person in their right mind would sell their own copy? Still keep it in the bookcase (lol) so when my pal the Chief of Police is over it's "under wraps"

Deborah said...

LOL! Unbelievable that it would be that much! I was thinking it was a mistake too. Take a look!

I would like to know WHO would pay that! I'll take the one for $10!!

Hey, Penny! Thanks for the book recommendation. I will definately check it out. I don't have a lot of decorating books, but like Robin, I have tons of magazines.

Your trasferware is beautiful. I only have two pieces...that just means I have lots of room to grow my collection...LOL!

I live in Gainesville, which is a little north of Madison.

I love the book Penny, that will have to go on my list. I have 100's of decorating books, my husband is threatening to get rid of them! I love the red and blue transferware together. :)

I have so many favorites; of course I love Rachael Ashwell but I also love Kathryn Elliot's "Junk Chic" books and Mary Randolph Carter's "Junk" series.

Thanks for introducing this one.

I love!!! the extreme mosaics! And the painting of the view from your house. What a blessing to have such a beautiful view.
I don't have a favorite decorating book ... I just like to browse through whatever is on the magazine rack as I check out of the store. That seems to be all I have time for. ha!
