AT LAST! The Kitchen Nook is Done!

YEAH! The Kitchen Nook is finished! Please click on any picture to enlarge for detail (The Before picture might not enlarge, but all of the rest will).

BEFORE

In the before picture above, you can see the hutch that is now painted red and in my dining room, see here. The wall color has been changed. This color was called Oak Cask and we lived with it for a year, before we decided it was a little too dark. It has been repainted in the AFTER pictures Straw Doll, from Sherwin Williams.

The picture below is a before picture of the hutch that is now in the kitchen nook. We removed the glass inserts and replaced them with chicken wire, painted it black and added red toile fabric to the background (Manuela from The Feathered Nest gave me that idea).

AFTER

In the after picture above, you can see we now have painted the walls a lighter shade of yellow, added the different hutch, different table, chairs and bench. The hutch, drop leaf farm table and bench came from different antique stores. The chairs are new. We purchased them unfinished and painted them the same color I painted the table. I painted the bench and hutch black.
I purchased the yellow buffalo check valances from Country Curtains and added the red toile and black checked ties. They are tied to vintage door knobs that I found in an antique store. The chandelier was purchased from Lowe's 2 years ago. I recovered the shades with the same material that is on the chair and bench cushions.
These pillows and cushions were made for me by Shelley of Judd Home Decor. She is wonderful to work with and it was all done via email!

A closer look at the chicken wire on the hutch.

The three prints above the hutch are from the very talented Teresa from French Poppy. I love the French Country look they create!

This picture is taken from standing in my living room. The grandfather clock is new. I love the way it looks with the black painted furniture.
Close up above of the new pillows.

The ceramic pears and apples were purchased from Pier One about 8 years ago. The cookbook behind is the one that has Kijsa's art on the front cover.
This sweet tassel hanging from my hutch is from Rosie at Rosie's Whimsy. It looks so good in my refluffed kitchen nook!
The adorable bird on the nest inside my cloche is from Kathy at Kathy's Cottage. Doesn't she look good there?
Both the checked plates and rooster plates are ebay purchases.
Remember here when I said my dining room and kitchen nook sat on either side of my kitchen? The picture above I am standing in the kitchen nook, looking through the kitchen to the dining room.

The picture above, I am standing in my dining room, looking through the kitchen to the kitchen nook. We have an open floor plan in our house and you can pretty much see into the living room, dining room, kitchen nook and den from each of those rooms.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the pictures. Whew! Am I glad that is done. Now I need to decide if I want to paint my bedroom furniture or refluff the back porch....hmmmm. Oh Wait! I forgot, I still have to paint and mosaic the buffet in the dining room...

Penny, it looks fantastic.

I love your cabinet. The chicken wire, the red toile and your black and white dishes are all perfect together.

And, the window treatment is wonderful. I have never seen that done with the knobs.

The bench and the table and chairs make such a cozy setting. Everything is perfect.

I know you must love just going to look at your fantastic completed project.

Your nook looks so inviting. I love the colors you chose. And I love what you did with the hutch. I never would have thought to do that. How did you attach the chicken wire. Nicely done!

So pretty...just love the combination of the red, yellow and black. It was such a good idea to brighten the yellow!

I also love what you did to the now black/chicken-wired cabinet, as well as the red painted hutch.

Beautiful!!!

Penny, I love this one even more than the dining room! Isn't it amazing how, painted black, the hutch actually looks brighter and more open than when it was brown? I think the chicken wire has something to do with that. The touches of red toile are fabulous with the black and light yellow. It all looks so beautiful, I love those colors and everything in this area. You must be so pleased:>)

Great job seeing thru that 40s Regency look and ending up with a country Fench piece. Nothing like a little chicken wire to make something appear a la Francaise. Love the colors and the whole look. Great job.

Ugh, I am soooooo jealous! You did an amazing job of putting everything together. I can't believe how well both the hutches turned out and how much better they look painted.

Thank you for emailing me the brand of the red paint, now, I have another question. What color/brand is the black paint and is it flat or satin paint. I was thinking about painting some furniture white, but now, I'm liking your black and red.

I am sure I can find a few ideas to use in my kitchen/dinning area!
