Well, it is warmer than I thought it would be, but still a clear cool fall day. Here is a the orchard. (You can click pictures to enlarge for detail)

Is there anything prettier than red apples, green leaves and blue skies?

Instead of picking apples today, let's just grab a bag that is ready for us! We need to get home and make an apple pie for dinner.

Oh yea, now that's what I am talking about! Apple Pie, French Vanilla Ice Cream (with real vanilla bits) and warm caramel sauce drizzled on top....

The Recipe.....I don't really measure so this is approximately the ingredients.
One Pillsbury Pie Dough package from the refrigerator section in the grocery store.
8 Firm Tart Apples Peeled, cored and sliced thin - I used Jonagold.
3/4 cups sugar,
1-2 Teaspoons Cinnamon
1/4 cup REAL Maple Syrup (my special ingredient)
1-2 Tablespoons Flour.
Mix last 5 ingredients together. Pour into unbaked pie crust that has been placed in a pie pan. Cover top with pie crust. Pinch together top and bottom crust at rim. Make slits in top crust to let steam escape. Bake at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Cover edge of crust with foil if it starts to brown too much.
Remove from oven. Let cool slightly. Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
p.s. Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions on the toile slip cover! I think I am going to do it, but it won't be right away. I have to save up my pennies... I will let you all know when I do!
See You Soon,
Penny

Penny,
That pie sounds yummy and as a true Vermont Maid I applaud the addition of the pure maple syrup.
This song reminds me of a movie I saw many, many years ago with Robert Mitchum stranded on island with a Nun. Of course my memory could be faulty, lol!

Every Fall we used to take the ferry over to Illinois and go apple picking. So much fun! We made a day of it, with the ferry ride as special as the apple picking and the picnic lunch we enjoyed at Pere Marquette State Park. You brought back great memories, with this post.
Apple pie, my favorite. Looks like you had a good time at a lovely orchard. Karen
