The Couch and a Dream

When I asked about slip covers in toile for my chair, I also mentioned that I would probably slip cover the couch in red. Here is the couch. As you can see, by the quilt and pillows I have been trying to cover the beige......
Below is the current pattern of the couch. It is a beige chenille with red and green specks.

Here are some of the sample fabrics I had been looking at.

The solid red color is the one I would go with, if I do the slip covers. The red matches all of the toile, rooster and checked patterns I have in my house.

I have had neutral furniture for years, and I want a change. I think the best way is with slip covers, so if I get tired of the red down the road, I can always remove them and go back to the neutral.

The slip covers are just dreams for now. But dreaming is half the fun, isn't it?

On to another subject. Are you planning on having over night guests during the holiday season? Is your extra room guest ready? Come visit my post on Home Goods Blog for some great ideas!
See You Soon,
Penny

i just slip covered a rocking chair in a red plaid. I did it to get my feet wet since I want to slip cover the couch in white...It is red now. Good luck.

I love slipcovers, alot of work but worth the time and money you save. I think the red would be great, especially with the prints on all the pillows, great choice!! Hugs, Kimberly

I love the fabrics you have there but you might want to go with a check or plaid or even a solid with the toile, sweetpea. I love the check with toile though. Good luck in deciding, but just go ahead and do it.... LOL

I love the dark red fabric and think it would look great on the couch! Love all the fabrics together.

Slipcovers are the way to go, then when you get tired of them, you can go back to the way they were!

Donna

You can't go wrong!

I always had neutral furniture. Two years ago we bought a red sofa, for the condo and haven't looked back. I love it!

Hold onto your dream, Penny. It's a great one!

I think the red slipcover would look great with some pillows in toile , plaid or floral to tone the solid red down a bit. And you know what. If you end up not liking the red, it's just a slip cover and you can change it out at little cost!

Penny,
I really like the solid red. It is an easy color to work with. My couch and love seat in my living room are red. I've had them for about 14 years. It goes perfect with Christmas. I know that you will love it! In one house we had,I put them in a peach room. Now I have them in a yellow room. I will post some photos soon to show you. I don't use toile in that room, however that is one of my favorite patterns.

Go for it!!
Hugs,
Lee Laurie

You KNOW I'm going to say "Go for it!" with anything involving red! I think the dust covers are a great idea. You could even switch them out seasonally if you wanted something light and airy for a beach cottage theme in the summertime.

Such beautiful fabrics you've chosen! My next sofa will be slipcovered and I will purchase more than one slipcover because I LOVE to change out things with my moods and the seasons. Red and Yellow are so wonderful together and add the toile and ooh la la! BEAUTIFUL!

Hey Penny; I have been reading your past post to catch up. Love the fabric you are going to use for slip covers. They are going to be so pretty. I just love using slip covers, I have one on my sofa and wing back chair. All I have to do is wash and put back on, and then when I am bored with them I put on an other style. Better then buying and new set every year... he he.

I think your furniture is really lovely, but oh, how I would love the red with all your beautiful pillows and the toile you might put on the chair! I think this will breathe new life into your furniture! And like you said, if you change your mind in the future, just take the slipcover off!

That is a really pretty red, and I think it would be so pretty along with the slip covered chair in the red toile. Hope you get to do it all soon!

Key West was a lot of fun, Penny! We enjoyed all we did there and I'm writing a little bit about in my blog. Such a mix of the fanciful and the unusual there!

I just sold my red sofa on Craigslist only because my husband preferred the leather sofa, and we only had room for one. I loved, loved, loved the red one, and I just don't think you can go wrong with a red slipcover for yours. Plus, it's not permanent, so if you change your mind, you can do something else. :-)

Thats a great idea in deciding on slipcovers for the sofa. The sofa looks so nice as it is when you need a change you can easily make it. That is a lovely red and you can coordinate so many of your nice pillows with it.
Maybe one day we'll see your dream come true here in blogland.
Have a nice evening.

Penny,
This looks so gorgeous together. I adore the idea of slip covers. I remember when I was a teen, my best friend's mother had summer swags and slipcovers and winter ones too. I thought back then in the 70's she was so clever, and I loved how fresh her home always looked. The beige is a wonderful alternative, because you can always add whatever accent pillows you are in the mood for...Beautiful as always Penny.

Oh yes, dreaming it is the first step to making it happen. I love the idea of solid red because then you can use all those different yummy toile pillows. I think slipcovers are the way to go (even though they are almost as expensive to have made as having something reupholstered).

Hi Penny,

Hi, Penny, yep looks like you are craving some color. I'd say go with the slipcovers & you can always change it back later. That's the great thing about them. I'm going to attempt to sew a slipcover for a chair & ottoman in my guestroom redo I'm planning. Wish me luck, I don't sew!

I love the different fabrics you shared. They look great together. And, the slipcover plan seems perfect.

I'm right in the middle of slipcovering my own couch in red! It's sort of a red denim, and I love it.
I love the pillows--they'll look great on that red couch!

The red is very rich looking! And a slipcover means you can always go back. Plus, you can wash it.

Oh my Penny, this will be gorgeous! I can't wait to see it! I have a lot of color around my house and have had it for yrs...sometimes I want to go all neutral! I like the red and with doing a slip cover you can always change back and forth! How much fun that would be. Nancy

Hi Penny,
I love the red! I made slipcovers with my mother's help for two old chairs and ottomans and love them. They are so easy to remove and wash which is great with two cats and a dog in the house.
